How to tell if a girl likes you – the definitive guide

Have you ever spotted an attractive girl across the dance floor and wondered if she likes you? Or is there someone special at work that you keep bumping into, and you’d like to know is she’s interested in you?

Trying to figure out if a girl likes you or not can be a nightmare, but there are lots of things to look out for. Take a look at our definitive guide below, and the next time you meet the girl of your dreams, you may not be so quick to pass up the opportunity that could be staring you right in the face!

It’s good to talk!

One of the best ways of finding out if a girl likes you is plucking up the courage and talking to her. Once you engage in conversation you can begin to find out if she’s attracted to you, and you can then look out for any small signs.

It will also give you the perfect opportunity to learn things about her. Is she quite a talkative person around other people, but is she now acting quite shy? Does she seem nervous around you? Does she seem to be acting different around you in contrast to her normal behaviour? All of these could be positive signs that she’s attracted to you.

Does she find you funny? This doesn’t necessarily mean she likes you, but if you notice that she finds your jokes funnier than other people do, this could indicate an attraction. Making a girl laugh is also great way of getting their attention, and making you more attractive!

Flirting

When a girl is flirting with you it’s not always easy to spot. So knowing what to look out for is essential!

Here are some of the things to look out for –

  • Talking fast – can be a sign she’s nervous or getting flustered.
  • Fidgeting – playing with her hair or generally fidgeting.
  • Smiling – she smiles at you a lot, and makes an effort to smile when you’re around.
  • Staring – she stares at you or in your direction and either smiles or blushes when you look back.
  • Touches you – small touches on the arm or friendly tickles.
  • Initiates conversation – makes the effort to talk to you, or uses an excuse to talk.
  • Random hugs – a very affectionate action, and an easy flirt to spot.

If however you don’t spot any of these don’t be disheartened, because it doesn’t necessarily mean she doesn’t like you. Some girls can be too shy to interact, and may try to avoid you altogether. Doing the opposite to flirting could also be a good sign that she likes you.

Body language

closeBody language is one of the easiest ways you can tell if she likes you. For example, if she leans in close to you whilst you’re talking, or she makes a conscious effort to be closer to you, then this is a good sign she likes you.

Look out for obvious signs that she’s comfortable around you and possibly attracted to you. For example, is her body language open or closed? Does she face her body towards you naturally and engage you?

You don’t need to be an expert in body language to see if she’s interested in you. Look how accessible she makes herself to talk to you. If she leans in close to you, or makes an effort to be near you in a room, it could be a good sign that she wants to talk. You do however also have to look out for someone who really likes you, but is too nervous to be near you. Again, it should be easy to spot.

Finally, if a girl bites her lip when she’s talking to you this is a really obvious sign that she likes you, and some girls bite their lips to flirt.

She’s always there

If you find that a female colleague always seems to be in the coffee room when you are, it could mean she’s making an effort to bump into you. Have a look next time and see if she always goes at the same time, and if it seems like she’s waiting to see you go first.

Some girls may also try to bump into you in the corridor, because they want to interact with you and say hello. These are all obvious signs that she’s attracted to you, and wants to see you as often as possible.

It’s also worth noting that some girls may make the effort to leave a room when you enter, because you make them nervous when you’re around. Unless you’ve upset them in some way, or you’re confident they don’t like you, there should be no other reason why they are avoiding you. So try to look out for this, and make the effort to talk to them and find out how they act in conversation.

Smile

Don’t be afraid to use your great smile to see what reaction you get. If she smiles back, then this could be a great sign that she’s interested. A great time to smile at a girl is when you catch her staring at you. If you don’t smile at this point, then she may think you’re not interested. So make sure you take advantage of the opportunity, and do some flirting of your own.

Just ask!

askingoutFinally, don’t be afraid to just ask! This may seem like the most obvious way of finding out whether she likes you or not, but if you leave it too long you may find that the competition swoops in and steals her away from you.

Although we’ve offered some great tips to help you on your quest for love, don’t get too hung up on them. Every girl you meet is different, and you might not get any indication she likes you. But it doesn’t mean to say she doesn’t! Some girls don’t give anything away, and the only way to find out is by asking.

What are you afraid of? Rejection? Is that worse than being on your own and letting the girl of your dreams slip away? Of course it isn’t. But you don’t want to go steaming in either and drive her away!

If you just can’t figure out whether she likes you or not, then try asking her out for a drink. If you don’t want to be too forward, then even invite her out for drinks with your friends, and ask her to bring her friends too. This takes all the pressure off, and allows you to casually talk to her whenever you like, and when the times is right.
